Why did you choose to study building engineering at Politecnico di Milano after your bachelor degree?

I have always been fascinated by the built environment, how this influence millions of human beings lives and how this impact their quality of life.

Studying Building Engineering after my bachelor’s degree came as a natural choice, pursued by the curiosity of continuous learning by diving into all the complex specialist disciplines such as acoustic, fire engineering, material science, façade engineering, etc.

Engineers play a crucial role in shaping what the future built environment will be, and as such we shall be eager to have a full understanding of the different requirements and their overall impact on the environment when designing a complex building and the urban habitat– from structural performance to building services, from architectural appearance to constructability.

What are the opportunities that this Master Program offered to your personal and professional growth? How were they useful to your career development?

Not only this choice allowed to build a great rounded knowledge on most disciplines about the built environment, but also propelled technical awareness of how different competencies are required for this purpose and shall be explored for a final successful outcome when it comes to working in the construction industry.

As a student, studying different specialist disciplines allowed to understand how engineers play a crucial role in modifying the territory with respect to sustainable development, shaping a better, more sustainable built environment and a better place to live.

I also discovered strong interest in façade engineering, fire engineering and materials science, which then culminated in a master Thesis developed during an internship with an international curtain walling contractor.

As a professional, I am grateful for the technical expertise which I gained while studying Building engineering at PoliMi. It allowed me to undertake a successful international career abroad, working for top engineering consultancies while contributing to make a difference in designing complex yet sustainable iconic buildings.

The competencies acquired during my studies encouraged to assume a multidisciplinary approach to problems formulation and helped to tackle problems arising during the building design process by developing sustainable design strategies and practical engineering solutions.
